Maybe It's Not Over

I was really in breakup mode with my writing last week, as evidenced by my pathetic give-up post, but perhaps our relationship isn't over after all.

No, no - I still haven't written anything, but apparently I can't stop thinking like a writer. I've been doing a lot of reading to pass the time, and otherwise filling my days with wonderful mommy moments and dreadful cleaning binges, but each time I finish a good book I get that niggling. That fervent desire to write something - to publish - to create characters that leap off the page and bond with their reader. I even got a spark of an idea! But it's just another small idea that needs major developing and nurturing. I don't know if it will ever go anywhere.

I guess I'd place myself in writer's limbo right now. I'll no longer say I should give up (because you're right, I shouldn't) but I still feel like I need to let this fly for awhile and not force myself. We'll see what comes of it.

If anything, I'm at least encouraged that I couldn't shut down my writer instinct, even when I really was feeling like parting ways was for the best.

There are so many ups and downs to being a writer. Many people find heartache after heartache when they review their writing or receive rejection after rejection. Me, I questioned whether this was my path, or if I should go back to school and try something else. I came to the conclusion that even if I had a different career, I'd still use my spare time to write. In other words, I can't give it up.

Hope you find some clarity on your hiatus!

If you do enough cleaning, you'll by crying to get back to the writing.
But I get the sentiment. Stick to it, though! Even something small each day.

Thank you for the kind, encouraging comments everyone! I really appreciate it.

I'm working on a new story idea and even wrote a little for the first chapter. The story is still evolving though. I think I have to rewrite what I've written already. Oh well! That's the way it goes and it's good practice.

I wrote something again! Yah!

Hi Casey. I saw your picture on PJ's blog and I thought it was really cool so I decided to visit you here. I am also in writer's limbo right now - not a happy place to be. But part of being a writer is knowing that I've been here before and I'll be here again. Each time, hopefully, I move through these low phases faster because I begin to trust the process of doubt and jubilation. Of stagnation and growth.

Don't give up. Don't ever give up.

Sounds like you just needed to recharge your batteries. Glad to hear you can't stop thinking about writing. I'm sure you'll be pounding out the rest of your novel soon!!
