Agent Spotlight & Agent Spotlight Updates

  • Agent Spotlights & Interviews have been updated through the letter "K" as of 3/28/2024 and many have been reviewed by the agents. Look for more information as I find the time to update more agent spotlights.

Introducing...Agent Spotlight!

Researching and querying literary agents is extremely time consuming, and when you’re trying to put together a personal query for each agent (which you should be) it’s even more so. And this is only after you’ve compiled a list of agents who represent your genre, which takes its own share of time.

I’m here to help!

At least once a month I'll do an Agent Spotlight Interview with an agent who represents children's, middle grade, and/or young adult literature. I will ask them about what they're looking for, whether they're an editorial agent, how to query them, other helpful interviews they've done, how to query them, and more. These interviews contain all the helpful information that are in the Agent Spotlights and additional helpful information.

I also offer a query critique giveaway with the agent so that you can get feedback to strengthen your query letter when you are ready to query. You do not have to write in a genre that the agent represents or want to query the agent to be eligible to enter my query critique giveaways. The purpose of them is to give you feedback to make your query letter stronger and to get experience communicating directly with a literary agent.

I also try to keep the Agent Spotlights and Agent Spotlight Interviews up-to-date because many agents switch agencies, start their own agencies, and change what they're looking for. All the agent spotlights were updated in July 2020. I am going to try to update them every three years.

You can help, too!

Please e-mail at natalieiaguirre7(at)gmail(dot)com if you have any suggestions, requests, agent news, or information regarding an agent I've spotlighted or will be spotlighting in the future. I encourage everyone to contact me or leave a comment—good or bad, open or anonymous—about the agents you've had experience with.

If you are an agent and would like to do an Agent Spotlight Interview, please e-mail me  at natalieiaguirre7(at)gmail(dot)com.

Thanks so much! Good luck with your querying!

I think this is brilliant! But, like Heather says, dang that'll be a lot of work. Can't wait to see what you dig up!

Very fun idea, Casey! I'm sure it will be a hit!

Thanks! I did the first one last week as a test run. It's definitely time consuming but it's not like I won't benefit from the research! I'll know who I'll be interested in working with when I'm ready to query.

I've been struggling with how to present it more than anything.

Great idea! What you may want to consider doing is announcing the next agent to be profiled at the end of each agent post. This way, you can ask that anyone with experience on that agent to email you with experiences prior to your posting, and perhaps you can even email the agent themselves with any current info they'd like to share (like current interests). Just a thought.

I'm sure you'll get comments in int comment section as well, but be prepared that many of them will be anonymous.

Great ideas Angela! Love them!

I was considering e-mailing each agent so they could view their entry and let me know if they want anything to be edited, but I thought I would get a few up first.

We'll see how it goes!

Oooooh, your blog is SO useful! It's just been added to my favourite sites. Thanks a lot for this.

Your site has been tremendously useful. Thanks so much for doing this!

Would you consider all the agents you profile "vetted" in the sense that, if they appear on this list, we can assume they're good agents who aren't just scam artists? They all seem to be true agents, which is nice. I know that I've been very weary of untrustworthy agents.

Absolutely S. Kyle. I've answered your question here: http://caseylmccormick.blogspot.com/2009/11/are-spotlighted-agents-all-legit-yes.html

Thanks!

Okay so I have a quick question, I had no idea who to ask. If I have posted an unedited story online(Not a full chapter, more like a paragraph). Will an Agent still look at a fully edited story? Or will they turn it down and want something that hasn't already been read by people?

JustADr3am3r,

I think an agent would only be concerned if you had the full story, or a significant amount of it, posted online. A paragraph shouldn't be a problem at all. Lots of writers post excerpts online for critiques and contests. You're fine!

Thank you so much for this amazing resource! I've just begun the search for an agent and the information you compile is exactly what authors need to know. Brava! And thanks again.

I'm working on a blog article about websites with agent interviews. Would you mind if I include a link to this page?
