Are there any research tips or words of wisdom you'd like to share here on Lit Rambles?
It can be anything from that first moment a writer has to figure out who reps what up to the last when they've received an offer of rep and are quadruple-checking the agent is actually a real, legit human being, errr agent, that will be good for their career (we get pretty skeptical after all those rejections, right?). Detail oriented or large picture, whatever you want to share!
I'd love to tap into the collective knowledge of my readers and share some gems. I know we have some great researchers and query veterans among us.

This is a great idea. I don't have much wisdom to impart but look forward to reading those who do. I will get some thoughts together about what I would like to know and get back to you.

Forget writer's block, how about DENIAL. I do everything imaginable to avoid writing because suddenly it's hard (cuz, yanno, I figured out I have to do it right).

ReplyDeleteI say if you're uncertain how reputable an agent is, search through their garbage cans. Do they recycle? Are there any plastic bottles in there? Too much paper? How's their diet? Getting enough fiber? Can't have your agent keeling over in the middle of negotiations. Big drinker? That could be good or bad. Social drinker, good at mixing with clients, private drinker-bad because there missing all those tipsy editor parties where publishing inhibitions are lowered. Lastly, coffee grinds? Let's hope so. They'll need some nervous energy to keep pushing that manuscript. No tea drinker is going to be aggressive enough.
