Tip Tuesday #176 - Kristin Lenz on #GivingTuesday

Tip Tuesday features writers' tips on craft, research, querying, blogging, marketing, inspiration, and more. If you'd like to send in a tip, please e-mail me at agentspotlight(at)gmail(dot)com.

Kristin Lenz is a social worker and writer who blogs at YA Fusion. To gear up for the holiday season, she has a tip about giving. Read on to learn about #GivingTuesday.

Everyone is familiar with Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday, but there’s a new movement, and it’s all about giving. #GivingTuesday was created last year as an initiative to celebrate and encourage charitable activities.  It’s a day for giving back.
Visit #GivingTuesday for ideas and inspiration about how you can contribute, and be prepared to join the movement next year. Charitable giving is something we tend to be quiet about. We feel like we should be humble. It doesn't feel right to say, "Look what I did!"  But the more people know about your efforts, the more likely they are to join you or support another cause that's important to them.

For more tips about donations, microloans, or volunteering your time, stop by YA Fusion and read Kristin’s post. The blog team is giving a shout out to some of their favorite charities and sharing their book bounty with a giveaway.  They’d love to hear your recommendations, too.

I just bookmarked this blog and I hope your next one is going to be about the same topic again I’m looking for ward to it. One thing I want to add is I like your writting style.

Sounds great, but I'm still uncomfortable announcing these kinds of things.

This is the perfect time of the year for giving. There are so many organizations at this time of year that need a little extra help.

Perfect idea and it really is helpful knowing which charities other people we know and respect are supporting. It's a sad fact that not all charities are created equal. Some have high overhead costs and scams do exist.

Love this! I work on this with the kids at school - with any fundraising we do, we always give a portion to a charity. It's so important!

I like the sound of Giving Tuesday. I went over to the blog you recommended and wrote about a charity I supported earlier this year. Thanks for introducing me to a new blog to follow!

Thank you for sharing this! There are so many great organizations that contribute hard work to better people's lives. It's lovely to hear this spoken about on the blogsphere. For anyone who is interested, I like to follow Easter Seals Florida's blog. They help individuals with special needs have equal opportunities. Enjoy... http://www.eastersealsflorida.blogspot.com/ =)

Giving any time is wonderful. My giving happens mostly on Wednesdays when I give my time at the library. I could do more, so I'll check out the #GivingTuesday.

Thanks for this post!

According to @GivingTues, Giving Tuesday 2013 saw an 99% increase in total U.S. charitable donations (via paypal).

And..love this quote:

"No one has ever become poor by giving." (Anne Frank)
